Domain Status Checker
Check whether a website is online or not
Domain status codes aren't something most people ever look at — until something goes wrong and they become the most important thing in the room. Domain Status Checker queries the registry record for any domain and returns the current EPP status codes, which tell you exactly what actions are currently permitted or restricted on that domain.
The most common status is simply "active" — the domain is registered, resolving, and has no restrictions in place. But registrars and registries apply various locks and holds depending on circumstances, and understanding what they mean matters when you're troubleshooting or planning domain changes.
ClientTransferProhibited means the domain is locked against transfer to a different registrar — this is a standard security measure that most domain owners should have enabled. If you're trying to move a domain to a new registrar and the transfer keeps failing, checking for this lock is the first diagnostic step. ClientUpdateProhibited and ClientDeleteProhibited restrict modification and deletion respectively.
Server-side status codes — those starting with "server" rather than "client" — are applied by the registry itself rather than the registrar. ServerHold means the domain has been suspended, often for policy violations, and won't resolve until the hold is lifted. RedemptionPeriod means the domain has expired and is in the grace period before deletion — still recoverable, but only by the previous registrant and usually at a premium fee.
For domain portfolio managers, running regular status checks is part of maintaining clean, functional infrastructure. Unexpected status changes are a signal worth investigating promptly.
